Homewood, Alabama- The Homewood Chamber of Commerce hosted its Annual Meeting and December Membership Luncheon on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at The Club. The luncheon, sponsored by Viva Health, is one of the organization’s largest gatherings of the year.
Guest Panelists Emily Jerkins of Birmingham Business Alliance, Rich Campbell of Veritas Medical Real Estate and Kim Barelare of Keller Williams Realty discussed the Homewood economy. The annual meeting also serves as the chamber’s annual award presentation for local businesses and volunteers, as well as the time to pass the gavel to the new board leadership for the coming year.
Shades Creek Dental earned the Rising Star Award, given to a Homewood Chamber member that has been inexistence for under two years and has provided significant service to the Homewood community and the Chamber at large. Regions Bank was awarded the Business of the Year Award, reserved for a Homewood Chamber member that has been existence for over two years and has provided significant service to the Homewood community and the Chamber at large. Homewood Rotary Club received the Community Patriot award, reserved for a Homewood Chamber Member that has demonstrated exemplary community service in the Homewood community. The Rotary Club of Homewood is a civic organization that supports the projects of Rotary International, provides service to Homewood, Alabama, and gives college scholarships to Homewood High School seniors. Homewood Chamber Ambassador Will O’Donnell of Alabama Allergy & Asthma Center received the 2019 Ambassador of the Year Award for outstanding service to the community through his presence at various Chamber events throughout the year. The Homewood Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Committee is a dynamic group of varied members whose mission is to recruit and retain members while creating a positive presence in the community. All Chamber Members in good standing wishing to promote the Homewood Chamber and build their own business may join this committee.
Homewood Chamber Board Member Steve Preston received the Distinguished Service to the Board of Directors Award. The Distinguished Service to the Board of Directors award is given to the board members leaving the board with at least six years of service.
The 2020 Board of Directors were announced and the gavel was passed from 2019 Board President Floresha Watkins-Woodall of Regions Bank to the 2020 Board President Jodi Newton of Samford University.
